The International Sephardic Journal, official publication of the International Society for Sephardic Progress is welcoming first person papers and stories for its March 2005 edition.

The International Sephardic Journal (ISJ) is welcoming first-person papers, memoirs and stories of the Sephardic experience for its "Portals to the Past" section in preparation of the March 2005 edition. This division of the ISJ is dedicated to sharing personal and family experiences, memories of the past and stories of interest. Topics can come from a broad source including, but not limited to, emigration/immigration, experiences during the war years, a remembrance of a holiday with your family, a Sephardic community member or rabbi you appreciated, memories of a favorite relative or stories of some other personal nature which you feel should be presented.

Previous published papers in this category included: "A Trio of Previously Unpublished Personal Accounts from Survivors of Auschwitz, deported from their homes in Rhodes and Salonika" by Rebecca Fromer & "Ahlan wa Sahlan: A Memoir About the Experience of an Egyptian Jewish Immigrant in the U.S. who returns to a changed Cairo" by Joyce Zonana and "Remembering the Former Rishon Le'Sion, Rav Yacob Meir."

You need not be a professional writer to participate. This announcement is open to people of all backgrounds and countries, however the topic of your story/paper needs to be of a Sephardic oriented theme. If you are not sure of your topic, feel free to contact us. Submissions may be made by electronically to email@ isfsp.org. Please include name, address, phone number, e-mail address, paper title, and either attach the article in MS Word format or send it in the body of the email. Papers should be between 700-4000 words in length and have not been previously published in print or on the Internet. Deadline for submissions is January 10, 2005.

The International Society for Sephardic Progress (ISFSP) is a Jewish agency developed to serve the Sephardic community--the descendants of the Jews of historic Spain, Portugal, North Africa and the Levant who share both common religious and cultural bonds. Although based in the United States, the ISFSP is an advocacy organization representing Sephardim internationally. The ISFSP also functions to produce high quality Jewish educational projects which will educate the public on the rich Sephardic Jewish communities, past and present.
